Concept
FoodDex — Discover. Collect. Compare.
FoodDex is a Pokémon GO-inspired food discovery app where users explore the real world, discover authentic dishes, collect them in a personal FoodDex, rate their experiences, and compare their culinary adventures with others.
The app is built around a simple loop: Discover → Eat → Collect → Rate → Compare → Explore.
At the center is an interactive map showing restaurants, markets, street-food vendors, food trucks, cafés, and other places where users can discover different dishes. Instead of simply showing restaurants, the map highlights foods the user has and hasn't discovered, turning food exploration into a game.
Every dish has its own FoodDex card containing its country of origin, cuisine, ingredients, photos, description, authenticity score, community rating, and the user's personal rating. Users can collect multiple versions of the same dish from different restaurants or locations.
FoodDex also allows users to compare foods. They can compare dishes based on taste, value, presentation, spice level, authenticity, and their personal ratings. For example, users could compare two versions of Jollof Rice, pizza versus burgers, or even the food experiences of different countries.
The app includes achievements and challenges such as "Discover 10 countries," "Try 25 noodle dishes," or "Complete the Malawian Food Collection." Users can complete food expeditions that encourage them to discover specific dishes from a particular cuisine.
A personalized Food DNA system learns what users enjoy—such as spicy food, seafood, rice dishes, noodles, or desserts—and recommends new foods based on their actual tastes.
Users can also create public profiles showing their collections, countries explored, ratings, achievements, and favorite foods. Friends can compare FoodDex collections and compete to see who has explored more.
